Paje lagoon
Our own school · Paje lagoon
— Kitesurf in Zanzibar

Learn where the lagoon is the classroom.

Flat, waist-deep, kilometres wide at low tide — and the school sleeps in the same place you do. Two minutes of honest questions and you'll know your course, your sessions and your price.

— Why here

The school sleeps where you sleep.

Anywhere else in Paje, the hotel and the kite school are two businesses: you book one, walk to the other, and hope the voucher works. At The Nest the school is part of the house — same beach, same breakfast table, same plan.

That changes small things that turn out to be everything: your lesson is planned around the wind of your stay instead of an office's schedule, the gear lives twenty metres from your bed, and the lesson goes in the same request as your room and your spice tour.

Packs with a name, not loose hours.

Every pack uses the school's own gear and an instructor, one-on-one. Prices are per session and per person — the quiz turns them into your total.

— When to come

Two winds, one lagoon.

Kusi (south-east) blows from April to October, Kaskazi (north-east) from November to March. March is the one genuinely quiet month — the table below is the honest month by month. And wind is only half the story here: the tide sets the hours.

— In pictures

The lagoon, working.

— Who this is for

Three riders, one beach.

First time ever

The lagoon forgives everything: flat water, standing depth, an instructor to yourself. Three sessions and you ride.

Coming back after years

You body-dragged once, long ago. One week here closes the gap between «I tried it» and «I do it».

The independent rider

No lessons needed — rental, a catamaran day between sandbanks, and the lagoon starting at the garden gate.

— Frequently asked questions

Before you fly.

Do I need any experience to start?

No. The lagoon is flat and waist-deep at low tide, which is exactly why beginners learn faster here. The honest number is three sessions before you are riding — not one.

Is there a minimum age or weight?

The school assesses each rider individually. Tell us age and build in your request and an instructor confirms before anything is booked.

What happens if there is no wind?

The school lives inside the hotel, so sessions are planned around the wind of your stay rather than a fixed calendar. Tell us your dates and the school confirms exactly how rescheduling works before anything is booked.

Do I need insurance to take lessons?

Zanzibar requires its own inbound travel insurance for every visitor, and for kiting we recommend cover that includes water sports. The school confirms the details with your booking.
